The Animal Cruelty Laws Of EU Versus US
The animal cruelty laws that exist in the {US have been a long time in the making. For years, animals have been used as crash test dummies, as well as being used to see how the military’s weapons would affect soldiers in the field. Now, with anti-cruelty animal laws that prohibit these types of actions, the US is setting a standard for other countries to follow. Although the US laws vary by state, in the world wide community the laws are quite different.~In the world, animal cruelty laws exist to varying degrees. For example, in the United States, laws vary by state. The laws in other parts of the world are similar in the fact that they also vary from region to region. However, as the world progresses, the animals are becoming more and more protected from human abuse because of the world wide efforts of groups that are trying to change global laws to reflect animal rights.~Animal rights groups are doing everything they can to make sure that animal cruelty laws are in effect all over the world. No longer can animals be used to see how a weapon might treat the flesh of a human or how a human will survive a crash in an automobile. Today’s laws are strict on a variety of animal rights issues, including transporting and even slaughtering. Domestic, farm and zoo animals are protected in a variety of ways around the globe from being treated inhumanely.~Animal cruelty laws vary from nation to nation. However, the one constant is the desire by people all over the globe to actively fight against the inhumane treatment of animals. To love animals of all types is to protect them, yet this has proven to be a larger job than many ever expected. Thanks to organizations around the globe, animal laws have been put in place to protect these defenseless creatures from harm.}
Unlike the {US, Europe has a union of fifteen nations that has established certain animal cruelty laws. These laws can include jail time for the human perpetrator if an animal is hurt, abused, neglected, or if an illegal puppy mill is found in operation. One of the most stringent laws in their treaty is that no one shall abandon a companion animal. This can carry severe consequences. The United States has left the governing of the animal laws up to the individual states; therefore, the punishments vary greatly from state to state.~The European Union governs the animal cruelty laws for companion animals, unlike the US that leaves it up to the individual states to govern accordingly. The European laws take preventive actions rather than waiting to deal with the abusive owner after an animal has been abused. This is unlike the US, which does not have any preventive measures against animal cruelty.}
Farm animals are also covered by the animal laws that the European Union has set forth. When it comes to farm animals, the transport and slaughter of these animals in the EUis much more progressive and stricter than in the United States. They rarely have issues, whereas the US is oftentimes in the news for unethical treatment of a variety of animals waiting for slaughter.
The main difference between the animal cruelty laws of the European Union and the United States is that the {EU sees animals as having inherent value. The United States still believes that the animals they should be protecting are property and not living entities. The US has to fight animal abuse on a greater scale than their European counterparts because of the inability of the United States laws to protect the animals that need it most.~The animal cruelty laws of the European Union are much more advanced than those of the United States. The main reason for this is because the European Union sees animals as having inherent value; the US sees them as only property. Just as slaves were once seen as being property, so too are the animals in today’s modern world. The only way to stop this from continuing is to become active in the fight for the prevention of cruelty to animals.~Animal cruelty laws exist in the world to protect the animals. The countries of the European Union understand that animals are not property and therefore, their laws are more extensive. The US, on the other hand, is still coping with this issue because animals are viewed as property and not living creatures. The world has changed since the 1800s, and the time for the US laws to catch up is now, not tomorrow. People must take a stand in the fight for the prevention of cruelty to animals.}
Animal cruelty is one thing that many individuals cannot comprehend. Why a person abuses a helpless animal is beyond the scope of understanding of most individuals. However, it is an evil that does exist in society. To better understand what constitutes cruelty to animals, there are actually two types to consider. Perhaps understanding the types will enable those who have a love of animals to aid in the prevention of cruelty to animals.
